A Bit About Us

About Me

Name: John Jones

D.O.B 23rd May 1984

Originate From: Hereford

Riding Experience

Beginning as an avid rider from a young age, I started my journey to expertise with Heineken, a 15.2 Heavyweight Cob X - not the beer. Training both him and me on rural countryside lanes, we entered him into local shows; showjumping and handy-pony were key to our routines.

Working at the mere age of 11 after-school, I helped at Kennels, earning enough to buy my own pony. It was a swift 10 weeks of saving before I was able to give home to Garfield (AKA Dyrfal Marvel), a 4 year-old 12.2 Welsh Section (C Unbroken). Breaking him myself, we learned about riding in abundance, together. Our adventure wasn’t destined for the finish line - I was 5’7 but conducting 3’3 jumps. I was knocking poles down with my feet.

Interim caring for ill family members did not falter my passion for riding, so later rides with other horses was fruitful, when I ultimately reverted back to another unbroken 15.2.

After graduating from my studies, I began work at Ruxton Horses, staying for 4 years. It was a gloriously delightful time, from which I give wholehearted thanks to Melanie and Emma Slater. They imparted their experience and knowledge upon me, as well as how to succeed in show-jumping and dressage.

From Matt Ryan, Triple Olympic Gold Medalist (competing in 3-Day Equestrian Eventing for Australia), I had been mentored and trained at 2003 at 18 years old. With his guidance (resumed in 2016), notwithstanding the indispensable advice from Ruxton Horses, my latest re-introduction into eventing saw me begin from the bottom, progressing up to 2* in 2.5 years, with the aim of achieving 3* in 2020. I am aiming to compete in the 2024 Olympics.

Testimony from Matt Ryan:

"John shows outstanding talent as an eventer, and is very willing to learn. He is very keen to not only improve his own riding skills, but also to discuss horse management, horse fitness programs, selection of competitions, and selection of suitable horses etc. He is very dedicated to improve all facets required to enhance his riding capabilities.

John is very ambitious. He has been inspired by watching other riders competing at top international level eventing, and believes that if given the right opportunities, and recieved the right support and guidance, he has the potential to be competitive at Olympic level.

I too believe John has Olympic potential, and wish him all the best of luck.”

I am looking for the support of companies to help me achieve my dreams in the Eventing World. So if you would be interested in supporting myself to make by dreams come true then please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
