It’s funny how many people think you should have a perfect horse

It’s funny how many people think you should have a perfect horse at competitions!! unfortunately this is not the case, there’s lots of training and schooling to do and you got your list of things you need to work on which then you hope improves. Then you go to the next competition and then something else crops up and then you got to work on them as well as the other things as well as your normal schooling because if you don’t keep practicing everything you're just going to be going round in circles. The thing you’ve got to remember when producing youngstock is not about winning now it’s about building confidence and working on things you know is yours and the horses weaknesses to get them better in time. No point throwing on side rains or draw rains to work on at home because as soon as they come off the head comes up. You need to be working on your own position, How much leg you can have on, work your horse in a long and low head carriage to help the horse work through his back and engage the backend, keep the horse supple and getting the horse to work through the poll. You may go to the competition and it just falls apart that doesn’t matter because the more competitions you go to the more the horses get used to the environment the more you control your nerves in time this will happen less, it’s all about time and not the now!! Produce the horse for the future and not for the now!
